LTIO responds to plans to end free Covid testing for the general public

The Chair of the Laboratory and Testing Industry Organisation (LTIO), Tom Watson, said:

“Testing continues to be the antidote to lockdowns. While it is important to find ways to reduce expenditure on testing, it is important to be wary about the potential impact of new variants. In addition, large numbers of people as well as businesses will want to know if they have contracted COVID.

“The independent testing industry is working hard to ensure we can offer reliable, cost effective PCR and Lateral Flow tests once free testing ends on 1st April. In addition, if a new dangerous variant were to emerge, our member companies are ready to scale up to provide mass rapid testing to safeguard the country again.”
